The Dominican Republic and Haiti share a border that is just over 100 miles long. This border has been the site of much tension and conflict over the years, as the two countries have very different cultures and histories.
The Dominican Republic is a relatively prosperous country, while Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. This economic disparity has led to many Haitians migrating to the Dominican Republic in search of a better life. However, the Dominican Republic has not always been welcoming to Haitian migrants.
In 2013, the Dominican Republic passed a law that would retroactively revoke the citizenship of anyone born in the country to undocumented parents. This law disproportionately affected Haitians, as many of them are born in the Dominican Republic but do not have documentation.
The law led to mass deportations of Haitians, as well as violence and discrimination against Haitians living in the Dominican Republic. The two countries have since tried to improve relations, but the border remains a site of tension and conflict.
