The Dominican Republic is the second largest country in the Caribbean by area and population. It is the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world and the only one in the Americas. The Dominican Republic is a middle-income developing country with an economy based on agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and mining. The Dominican Republic is a member of the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the Association of Caribbean States, and the Organization of American States. It is also a founding member of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement.
